Yesterday I went out to the patio and snipped a number of chocolate mint stems to bring indoors. I then put the stems into bottles filled with water. The scent was incredible!
My Love Of Growing Herbs:
I just love herbs. I’ve been studying them since my early thirties, when I was in an herb club with other women.
We met once per month. Each of us alternately brought a dish to enjoy that included an herb.
So now I have mint here in the kitchen where I can enjoy it while I wash dishes or prepare food.
Tip:
Mice hate peppermint. Actually they are repelled by an type of mint. To keep mice from coming in my kitchen, I took a cotton ball and soaked it in peppermint essential oil.
Then I placed it underneath my sink. And I haven’t seen one mouse since then.
Make sure you get 100% peppermint oil. And when the smell weakens, soak another cotton ball and place it wherever you think they might come into your home.
Cut flowers are always nice to enjoy inside. But don’t forget about your herbs.
My Favorite Herbs:
My favorite herbs for scent is chocolate mint, pineapple sage, lemon verbena and lemon balm. I also like spearmint.
Enjoy the aromatic herbs anywhere in your home. They’d be nice in a jar on a counter in your bathroom. Or in your guest room when guests are about to arrive.
Using Essential Oils In A Diffuser:
Placing peppermint essential oil in a diffuser helps relieve anxiety and stress.
Alternately, you can also add peppermint, lavender and geranium essential oils to a warm bath to help relieve stiffness while it’s absorbed through the skin.
Chocolate mint is also nice infused in a bottle of water. Very refreshing in this hot weather.
I have Rosemary just outside my door. I love to run my hands through it as I enter the house. I have spearmint, thyme and oregano that I plan to cut soon and dry. I love to cut flowers an add sprigs of herbs for the greenery.
What a great idea, Brenda! I've got a brown thumb when it comes to gardening, but I can usually keep an herb alive for a summer. I think I'll plant a few in pots this week!
I have not thought to bring herbs in for their aroma – great idea! And I haven't seen chocolate mint in garden centers around here, but now I'll look.
The only herb I usually plant is basil. Love it for cooking, but the scent is a bit much for me. Lemon balm sounds good. The mint looks nice in your kitchen.
I never would have thought of doing this. I have pineapple sage in my garden right now, and lemon verbena, too! Thanks for the idea;)
What a good idea. I don't have any mint, but I'm off to cut some rosemary and bring it inside. Anything green and living always cheers a place up!
My sage is blooming right now and it's so lovely!
I'm such a dummy. I never thought to bring these wonderfully scented herbs in. Another case of how often we ignore the obvious.
I love bringing the cut herbs into the house. They smell so good~love that green vase!
I recently received a bouquet of flowers that had mint sprigs in it… they were perfect! Such a vivid green, and that wonderful smell ~
Enjoy!!
Great idea! I have basil going to seed so I have to pick it. Also rosemary.
Good morning! Thank you for the reminder to bring my herbs inside! I have a plethora of mint and chocolate mint and I am going to cut some today!
How are your shingles? Are you feeling a little better? And your pups?
What a wonderful idea! I have a pretty pineapple mint which has creamy white/green leaves. Maybe I'll do the same. Thanks for your always interesting posts and hope you're feeling much better.

Great idea! Never thought of this idea but it makes a lot of sense. I'd be more likely to put a sprig of mint in my iced tea if I already had it sitting in a vase in the kitchen, and didn't have to go outside to get it. That green vase is so pretty. I like that caddy with the coffee label too. Thanks!
I remember planning chocolate, lemon and peppermint balm at my old house in 1997. It was the first time that I had planned any type of herbs and they smelled so good. Its seems like a life time ago. LOL However, I never remember cutting it and bringing some inside just to smell – my lost. Your blog always lifts my spirits. Thanks Brenda for all your posts.
