Sunday Snap Shots

Hyacinth Bean vine crawling up the fence.

Male cardinals are so handsome.

House plants. I've managed to get gnats again. So I'm going to use vinegar and dish soap.

  1. The vinegar doesn't hurt the plant? What proportion do you use?

    1. One tsp white vinegar. Here was the site I used to make my mixture...

  2. Brenda, I don't know when you'll read this....but better not to use vinegar. Dish soap sprayed is good....but vinegar will kill your plants 🌱 along with the bugs. I use vinegar to kill weeds in path ways or edging being careful not to touch grass or plants. Just thought i should tell you. Karen

  3. Many sites online that said to use a tsp of white vinegar. Various ones used other things like alcohol, etc. to add to that and dish soap and of course your water. Here was one of the sites...

  4. I have been told to use apple cider vinegar and place in a small cup and put it near the plants and the smell will draw them to it and then they will drown in the liquid

  5. Hi Brenda:
Hope you are having a good weekend. Now I am retired I hate weekends, I tend to do my shopping in the week when there are less crowds, and I can sit peacefully outside with no mowers or leaf blowers making a noise. Just lately though the weather has been terrible here in Canada (southern Ontario)its not even warm enough to sit outside. Today is windy and wet.
The picture of your squirrel cheered me up, he/she is so cute!

  6. I'm really enjoying your garden and your visitors to it. Looks like Mr. Squirrel is checking to see if Charlie is there to tease.

  9. Have you tried insecticidal soap? That works for me whenever I have any issues with a houseplant. My hyacinth bean is still tiny, not much growth yet. I think it's still too cool, once the hot weather kicks in it will most likely take off.

  10. Some great images, Brenda! You are a good photographer with a good eye for composition. I love seeing your photos. I especially like the one of the squirrel--what a mischievious look he has!
