Last Weeks Of August

The weather has steamed back up in Oklahoma. The refreshing cooler weather we had for about a week has faded away.

I've been to the area about four miles away that was hit by a tornado a couple of weeks ago.

Right in the middle of a popular strip mall they have fenced off a big area of the parking lot and the city has brought in big equipment to work on the affected and damaged areas.

Some of you mentioned that I should order or purchase L-lysin, and I did just that. It should arrive either today or tomorrow.

I'd never heard of this, but I got online and read about it.

I'm already taking a pro-biotic. Hopefully I will get this shingles problem under control.

Do you know of anyone who has a problems with shingles? Do the symptoms keep coming back? Do you know what the triggers are?

Have you personally had a problem with it?

This had never been a problem for me until the dental work I had done about a year and a half ago. Then the very next time I had my teeth cleaned, back it came.

And now, a few months later, symptoms are back again. I'll feel okay one day, dragging the next.

Seems like school was just being let out for summer, and it's already starting back up again. Where does the time go?

What are you doing these last few weeks of August? Going on a vacation? Sending the kids back to school?

  1. May I suggest as well as the probiotics you eat "live yoghurt"? All those little fellas inside the jar are just waiting to help!! It will help your mouth on the way through too.

  2. I got a shingles vaccine back in May. Have you had one of those? I've never had shingles, but I want to avoid it if I can! Ask your doctor about that. I believe they're recommended for people 60 and over.....

    1. I'll ask her. I've read that they're only 50% effective though.

  3. Brenda, I did want to tell you that you have inspired me with your flowers in pitchers! I had a small vacant corner in my living room that continually bugged me! After looking at your latest quilt purchase and with pitcher of flowers it hit me! I went to one of our local resale shops and found a pretty pitcher with multiple colored horizontal stripes for $5 Went to Hobby Lobby and found some red and yellow flowers) for half price) that match some of the stripes in the pitcher. I used a tv table totally covered with a vintage tablecloth and I am so pleased with the look I can't stop looking at it! Thanks a bunch for the inspiration!!

  4. I do hope the new herb benefits you and helps with the recurring episodes.
    Bless you!

Here in North Central Texas we have had unprecedented August rain and cooler temps (very few 100+).

The yard tasks are caught up, except for regular mowing, until December when trimming of trees and shrubs beckons.

Time for sewing Christmas gifts and quilt sofa throws.

  5. It steamed back up here as well. We'd had a dry spell, but nice and cool. Then hot, a full night and morning of drenching rain, then hot again.

I remember always having Lysine around when the boys were little for when they'd get cold sores and such.

  6. I took L-lysine when I was having issues with canker sores and it really helped! I'm so busy these last few weeks of August. A few outings with friends, the Eclipse on Monday and planning a trip to Cali to see my daughter! Wishing you a good weekend.

  7. My hubby had them only once and kicked him on his butt. Is stress a factor? You've had a lot going on. I've had remodeLing going on for five mths and finally wrapping it up. House needs to be cleared of dust and chaos.

    1. I don't know. It started right after the things that happened last weekend. I need to turn the TV off! I never used to watch TV. Nowadays, I'm kind of scared not to. Things seem to happen every day!

  8. Why not get the shingles vaccine shot? It would prevent you from getting it again. My doctor insisted I have one last year before my surgery.

    1. I think I'll call Monday and ask them. She has not suggested it.

  9. Is your Vit D level okay? Sometimes we become immunocompromised when that's too low. And I vote for the vaccine too. It may not prevent EVERY occurrence, but they shouldn't be as bad when you do experience them. Hope you feel better soon ~ and stay that way. ;-) Mindy

    1. Ever since I broke both sides of my ankle and had the first surgery, they've had me taking lots of Vit D. I take 2000 IU twice per day.

  10. I am astonished that your primary care physician has not recommended the shingles vaccine. All of the doctors in my area recommend it for anyone over a certain age. Supposedly, even if you do get shingles, it will be less severe. Most insurance plans will pay for the vaccine if you are in the recommended age range. The people I know who have experienced an attack of shingles only had one incidence. Both of those people received the vaccine after they had recovered from the initial attack. Good luck!

  14. The only person I have ever known to have shingles was my mother, and that was when she was in her 40's and under a lot of stress...a few months before my wedding! I know several people have recommended the shingles vaccine, but I dunno...being into natural health and very conscious of what I put in my body, I'm wary of vaccines. Google "dangers of the shingles vaccine" and read the articles that come up. Make your decision from there. I know everyone has different opinions and this is a controversial subject. You have to do what you feel is right for you.

  15. My grandmother lived with us when I was growing up and I remember she had a terrible case of shingles. She had a high tolerance for pain, but I can vividly recall her moaning in agony even all these years later. I wouldn't wish that kind of suffering on my worst enemy, although I'm sure she had an unusually bad case.

I didn't realize the vaccine wasn't always effective. Too bad, but I suppose it's better than nothing.

I like your new header and theme btw.

  16. What am I doing? Well, let's see.....I alternate between planning what feels like a MILLION weddings and cooking my butt off in the kitchen, putting up all the zucchini the garden is spitting out! I feel as if I need a clone!

I always enjoy reading your comments and having you join the conversation here at Cozy Little House. It is like having a gathering of friends sitting in my cozy apartment. Enjoying coffee and dessert, chatting and having a good time.

Please be kind with your comments. We all need kindness in this world. That's not to say you can't state your opinion! Everyone should be able to state their own opinion in a kind and thoughtful manner.

I appreciate each and every one of you!
