The Patio Mid-August

Yesterday it rained much of the day. Being overcast, it was a bit cooler. I've really enjoyed the cooler days of this strange August weather.

A male cardinal perched on the patio fence. One thing about an old wood fence, it sure adds a lot of desired texture to photos.

The concrete planter peeking out from the lush leaves. I really love it when the various plants blend together with their own uniquely shaped leaves.

Lantana and petunias in the metal plant holder underneath the smiling sun on the fence.

I hope your gardens are still giving you joy. We are heading into fall soon. I'm looking forward to the turning of the leaves!

  1. The mixture of plants, flowers, and planters you put together is beautiful. Thank you for so many fun and sometimes inexpensive ideas. Love your blog! The first one I go to each morning. :)

  2. Hi Brenda, I love seeing photos of your garden and the wildlife. I will be planting next year in containers on our deck. Would love to plant some perennials but I don't think they will survive our winters. I love grasses and would like some as a privacy barrier. I will try them and see if they will come up the next year. Must get a bird bath too. We have rabbits, birds, squirrels and chipmunks. I do put a few nuts out every day for the chipmunks. They come early morning while our cat Dexter sits at the window waiting for them! He doesn't get let out until lunchtime and then I am out with him as I can't trust him yet not to jump the fence. We will have to find something to put on top to discourage him.

  4. Your patio plants survived all your intense heat very well, Brenda! Our leaves are already turning, and starting to fall. I'm hoping for a spectacular foliage season this year!!

  5. We still have some flowers but soon they will be gone also. The heat has been awful but now we have had so much rain. Never a nice balance it seems.

  6. cooler weather here and a little rain...my beloved little pergola patio has been totally ignored this summer. When Bill got sick in Feb, I never gave the flowers another thought...and since he passed in July, I have no interest in my patio. Maybe by next spring, I'll feel more like enjoying it all. We received so many beautiful pot plants for his memorial and I have them all in my dining room...lots of windows and light and works like a green house...i do water and transplant them into larger pots....

  7. Your patio plants look lush and beautiful. Most of my potted plants look awful right now. I think we've had too much rain and not enough heat. All my lantana died when we got that deluge of rain last month.

  9. Wonderful photos, as usual, Brenda! Those black petunias are one of my favorites. I had some in a hanging basket last summer but didn't find any this year as my flower shopping was curtailed with the car dying and all. I did get some beautiful bright pink petunias and some white and lavender ones which have gone quite wild! I had taken some photos of them and then accidentally deleted them from my camera! I was so mad at myself as I had pictures of my grandsons one day when they dressed up in my shoes and stomped around with my old purses on their shoulders. They were quite the sight!

Hope you have a "cool" week!

  11. We really need more rain. I am watering every day, but rain makes everything more lush and I am tired of dragging that watering can. Your flowers are beautiful. xo Laura
