Today I’m showing you how I created three tabletop vignettes for the sewing machine table next to my couch in the living room.
There is a different sewing machine table on the other side of my couch, and I’ll decorate and show that later.
1. Version #1
For the first table top vignette, I chose for the background three elements: The birds/eggs wall hanging, and two wash boards of different sizes.
For a running theme for these vignettes, I chose natural neutral colors.
In the first one, I used a vintage wooden box in front of the birds/eggs wall hanging. Then I filled it with various vintage bottles and jars and a small faux plant.
To the side under the wash boards, I chose two faux plants (Hobby Lobby Saturday purchases) and the black bird. Then I placed vintage bottles and jars next to it.
Below the sewing machine table, on the round industrial end table I used a round galvanized container and added to it various sized vintage bottles and an ampersand.
2. Version #2
In the second vignette, I used the same background. But instead of the vintage wooden box, I used a dough bowl and filled it with faux flowers, a bird’s nest with faux eggs, and various vintage spools and rulers.
To the side under the wash boards, I used a faux plant, two candles, and the vintage shoe mold.
Below the sewing machine table, on the round industrial end table I used a vintage muffin tin filled with candles.
Below the sewing machine table, on the round industrial end table I used stacked books with a feed scoop and more small candles.
Which is your favorite look?
Do you like to often switch out vignettes in your home?
I love all three, Brenda. The variations are inspiring! Your bird egg picture is so lovely!
Nice styling. Version 3 is my favourite.
Hi – I discovered the lovely poster here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/232224317408
Oh good!!!
I have seen those posters at the mall near me. It also have roosters/chickens, bees, butterfly, maps and etc. I have a poster of USA (vintage) and Bees poster. The price is very reasonable.
Tysm! Will check out eBay!
I love all 3, but the last is my very favorite! I also need to find that bird/egg picture. I have noticed it alot in your pics and immediately fell in love with it. I enjoy reading your blogs and following along with you and your pupsters!
Got that bird poster already glued to the board at my antique mall. I have been told someone found it online. Google bird poster maybe?
These are all beautiful vignettes, Brenda! With small changes you totally changed the mood in each one. My favorite is the third one…I love the pop of green color! And yes, I am constantly changing my vignettes lol.
I always have admired your vignettes, Linda!
I love them all, but the third one is my favorite. It has a balanced look and is most pleasing to my eye. I love all the different elements you've used in all three of your vignettes.
I think maybe #3 was most popular, though I haven't done a count.
Hi ! I like #1 and #3. Love your egg poster and did you glue it on stiff board? I admire your blog and got a courage to drop by and say Hi !
I emailed you! I bought it already glued to the board from my local antique mall I always go to.
Thank you and you made my day 🙂
You had me at #1. The plants are so real looking. I love them.
Seems to me that this year faux plants have started looking more real than they ever have. There was a time when I wouldn't have purchased one because it looked so fake.
Each vignette is pretty and interesting but the one that I am drawn to is the second one. The reason, I think, is that it is the most "sparse" one. It has a lighter look and feel to me. The other two seem a bit cluttered. The fact that I chose the second one is interesting to me because if I were putting together a vignette, it would indeed be rather cluttered! But when I look at these which are already done by someone else I definitely am drawn to the most "uncluttered" one!
I loved looking at all your items that you used in the three vignettes. And this was a fun exercise. I can't wait for more!
I tend to keep editing a bit every day too.
They are all pretty, but I really like number two. I love the way the bird print stands out in that one. xoxo Su
I love how everyone picks things for different reasons.
ALL 3 ARE LOVELY. I LOVE THE BLUE DOUGH BOWL AND THE MUFFIN TIN WITH THE CANDLES. I HAVE ONE THAT IS DATED 1943 US HERCULES, NEVER KNEW WHAT TO DO WITH IT UNTIL NOW. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INSPIRATION. AS ALWAYS IT'S A DELIGHT TO SEE YOUR TAKE ON THINGS AND THE CLEVER WAY YOU USE THEM TO DECORATE.
Wow, that ones really old! Oldies but goodies.
Thanks for showing these vingnettes-loved #2 best; very soothing!
You're very welcome! Love soothing!
Love all of them.. But, I think the third one, is my favorite.. You are soooo talented..
I really love your new green bucket.. too cute.
Hope you have a great day.
The green bucket: paid $4.99 for it.
So fun to change up vignettes. I need to start doing that again. I love all of them but #2 is my favorite. I think the wooden bowl is so pretty.
When I get bored, I change up vignettes. Getting too old to move all the furniture.
They all are lovely! My favorite is the third one. I love the way some of the items are set on angle and the balance the box on the right gives it. That green galvanized container is great! It looks like it will be quite versatile to decorate with!
You can't beat half off!
They all look great but I think my favorite is number 3!! It just seems so fresh.
Always interesting to see what and why someone chooses what they do.
I,too, love all the three. They are all soothing and eye pleasing. The balancing is perfect in all of them, and the wood looks lovely with the greenery.I do like the pops of white in the second one, and I really like the green tin. My favorite is the first one.
I enjoyed working with neutrals. They are more relaxing I think.
I loved every one of them. Very eye pleasing, balanced and interesting.
Well done……….
Blessings, Nellie
As I wrote, editing is vital!
They are all gorgeous. I especially love the grouping of candles.
You're a great decorator yourself, Marty! And I can't look at a cloche without remembering your parties.
Dear Brenda…I truly love all three!! If I had to choose I love the candle presentation in #2. The colors for all three are so fresh and beautiful.
I typically use a lot of color. So I wanted to challenge myself with more neutral colors.
All three are lovely. My personal favorite is number two.
Thank you for the input! I love to hear what others have to say.
Dearest Brenda,
It is very hard to choose which one is my favorite, but I kept going back to the 3rd one, so that's my choice, although I really like them all. You have a tremendous talent for decorating and it was a difficult choice for sure. Love to see what you do in your place every day. You have gotten me motivated to do some fall in mine, too. 🙂
Have a wonderful day ahead.

Decorating has always been one of my favorite things to do. That and gardening.
I like all three. I'm going to gave to try layering!
I guess everyone has a different way of creating a vignette. I've always layered.
I like #3. Although they are all wonderful. xo Laura
I appreciate your input, Laura!
Hard to choose, but my first choice is #3,then #1 and #2 in that order. All very nice.
I just love to play with vignettes!
Gosh, I wish I had your eye for decorating! I really love #3, I think it's the books that does it for me. Thanks again for the tips!
You're very welcome!
Hmm, hard to pick one because each has it's own interesting elements! You have so many pieces to choose from. I love the vintage bottles and the wooden boxes and washboards. If I absolutely had to pick I guess I would say the first one, but golly, I really love that box in the 3rd one!!!
I have been a sucker for old vintage boxes since I was in my early twenties.
