White Dishes
I now have a new set of white dishes in my apartment. I’ve never actually had a set of all white dishware. But I love them!
I ordered the set of white dishes from Target.
Target has the best stuff in my opinion. It’s one of those stores I’d love to just walk around in and gaze at everything.
Set of dishes had a broken mug:
I tossed the broken white plate that came in the first order from Target, and the broken mug from the second set. Then I washed my dishes and arranged them on the blue cupboard in my dining space.
The clear glasses you see lined up on the cupboard are in fact jars, as you can probably tell.
Last week I was thinking that maybe one day I’d get smaller drinking glasses. I brought the four tall red glasses with me when I moved from Texas.
I have small hands and can’t get my hand around larger drinking glasses.
Then I happened upon an unopened box with a dozen small jars I had completely forgotten about. They’re the perfect size for my smallish hands. So I got them out, washed them, and started using them to drink out of.
Don’t you just love when you come across something you forgot you even purchased? It’s like Christmas!
Use mason jars for glasses:
If you can’t find glasses you want, consider using mason jars. They have them in all shapes and sizes and they’re relatively cheap when it comes to buying glasses.
Plus you can use them for all sorts of other things. Obviously canned food. You can also use them to organize pencils and such on your desk.
I like to use mason jars for buttons and pens and paper clips. Mason jars can be used for a multitude of uses around your home and garden.
In the garden you can stick a label on them and then put the jar upside down on a stick. This will tell you which plant is coming up where.
Newest color theme:
I’m quickly seeing how versatile it is to have a set of all white dishes. You can mix and match with all sorts of other patterned and colored dishware. The newest color theme on the shelves of my blue cupboard is red and white.
Do you own a set of white dishes?
Brenda, yes, White dishes are my favorite, they go with any other color. Your new white dishes are very pretty and they look so good with the red counterparts in your cupboard. Love it!
I love your new white dishes! They look fabulous! I cannot wait to see what beautiful settings that you come up with. Enjoy!
I'm just now learning to be eceltic in my style. for years it's been everything has to match. I don't have all white dishes, but, I sure do mix and match. The polka dots really caught my eye! Love them!!
I have the Corelle square white set of dishes … love them!! I use all different coffee mugs with them … just for fun!
I also love the white dishes accented with red polka dotted bowls. We started using the white Corelle dishes about eight years ago. My mother in law told me the benefits of having them for our dinnerware. I usually can pick up extra pieces relatively inexpensive at our Goodwill store. I hit a huge deal last year with 8 cereal bowls, 6 pasta bowls, 10 dinner plates, 16 saucers, and 12 luncheon plates for a total of $15! Really only needed/wanted the luncheon plates but at that price I couldn't say no! I don't run out when the dishwasher is at capacity.
So pretty, Brenda! Yes, I do have white dishes. I love them because they go with everything and I can mix and match so easily!
The cupboard's pretty. I love white dishes and of course they look fabulous with your favorite red touches. I have two incomplete sets of white dishes which I need to add to. I also have a very small set of blue and white dishes that I use with the white ones. I like blue like you like red!
My dishes are ivory Queen's Plain by Wedgewood and unfortunately discontinued but I bought 12 plates and salad plates. I use other pieces for my veggies. I love my dishes because being ivory they match anything and like another comment above I use them for everything. You've displayed your dishes very well and the touch of red is perfect!!
I has square white dinner, salad plates with square bowls from World Market. I bought them on sale and they were so inexpensive, but has a nice heft to them. I love your polka dot plates. So cute!
I love white dishes because they look great with any table setting and don't compete with the food!
Your new dishes are very pretty! I love the mugs. I have a set of Mikasa French Countryside that are a creamy white and then I have some plain white Corelle. It's so easy to set a pretty table with white dishes and colorful placemats or a pretty tablecloth, I think. No chargers for me, I don't get that fancy. 🙂 I also love the idea of using jars for drinking glasses. Several eateries we've been to also use them. Happy Autumn to you!
THE CUPBOARD LOOKS GREAT, THE WHITE DISHES ARE PERFECT. I NOTICED THAT 7 MUGS WERE JUST ENOUGH, FILLED THE SHELF NICELY. I LIKE THE SIMPLICITY, AND CLEAN LOOK OF THEM.THE RED PIECES ACCENT THEM NICELY.
MASON JARS ARE GREAT FOR SO MANY REASONS,SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST CANNING.AS A DRINKING GLASS,BREAKFAST IN A JAR,STORAGE AND A SIMPLE VASE FOR YOUR LOVELY FLOWERS FROM THE GARDEN. I ESPECIALLY LIKE THE BIG JAR WITH COFFER BEANS AND THE CANDLE.I WOULD NEVER HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT IDEA, BUT NOW THANKS TO YOU I WANT ONE FOR MYSELF. I'LL USE ONE OF MY LUMINARA TAPERS THAT I COVER WITH SARAN WRAP TO PROTECT THE WAX FROM DISCOLORING BECAUSE OF THE COFFEE BEANS. THANK YOU FOR SHARING.
HAVE A GREAT DAY. S2P
I noticed that about the mugs too. Eight would not have fit there.
I love my white dishes for all of the above reasons…but I especially love them for the way they make food look so good!
Hi Brenda~
I love your white and red theme, and the blue cupboard just sets them of so perfectly! I love white dishes as well. Any color you put with white, will look beautiful. Right now mine are off-white, but, I will soon be using a beautiful set of, Marcrest brown plates and dishes for fall. I don't do that for every season, but I really love these old plates and dishes, that were handed down to me by my mother.
I love drinking out of jars. One of my favorite restaurants uses jars instead of glasses and I love it. Besides that, they are practical, and don't break easily.
Have a wonderful week-end, Brenda! Happy Fall!
Hugs,
Barb
White/off-white. Same thing to me.
Perfect color scheme for your blue cupboard! I love both styles of your bowls, I'm a sucker for bowls. And I have come to love white dishes, even though I still love all my colored and patterned dishes too. But if I move into a tiny efficiency studio apartment someday and can only take one set, I will take all my white Buffalo plates, platters and bowls that have a thin green stripe around the rim. Food really does look better on white.
I like bowls too. So many things you can do with bowls!
I love the way your cupboard looks with the red and white. The new dishes are beautiful and so versitile! I especially love the big mugs which will be perfect for a warm cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Can you believe I've had the same 2 sets of dishes for over 40 years. (I was raised by parents that lived through the depression and taught to make things last) Maybe I should try a white set!
The red and white is a tad more subtle.
I love the white dishes and that pop of red is gorgeous. I have a few white pieces but not an entire set, but I may have to change that and soon.
Your display is very pretty, and I love your white dishes. I have a mixture of dishes which includes white too. Have a great weekend, Brenda 🙂
All my daily dishes – plates and bowls – are white, except for a set of blue and white floral plates. The blue and white plates were made in Bavaria and the white plates in England. All from Goodwill. I have a set of white bowls from Crate & Barrel and then another set (Mikasa) that are perfect for pasta dishes that I picked up at Goodwill just yesterday. All my drinking glasses are from Goodwill, too!
You must have great thrift stores in your area. I haven't found that to be the case here.
I love how you have arranged your dishes on the shelves. And isn't it wonderful how you can mix and match patterns? White dishes are both practical and beautiful.
You are absolutely right!
Your white dishes look great. I love that Corelle set too. I have some vintage Homer Laughlin dishes in the Colonial White pattern that I'm slowly adding to. I love that pattern. By the way, we use canning jars as our everyday drinking glasses. I'm drinking iced tea from a Ball wide mouth 2-cup-sized clear jar right now. We use the one-cup size for juice. I use both sizes as measuring cups too. Pop on a lid, and both sizes can hold leftovers in the fridge. And of course they make great flower vases. And if you are really ambitious, you can make some jam! But I'm not that ambitious much anymore.
Don't know why I didn't think of it before.
I love the new dishes and the dash of red is perfect! I have some white dishes in my stash!
I guess every woman needs some white dishes in their stash!
Brenda, I love this and you have probably mentioned it but what pattern are the white dishes from Target? Thanks and I love your blog!
The white dishes look great. Love the polka dots too.
I got those red and white polka dotted dishes from ebay years ago in TX.
Very pretty Brenda…. The red & white looks good in the blue cabinet. No, I don't have a set of white dishes. I always go for the colored ones. But….you have me thinking!
I love white dishes too. Your new display looks gorgeous.
Marty, I know you're a marvel in a kitchen. So I'm sure you are way ahead of me!
Our dishes are white. They have a relief design, so they aren't just plain. We use the same dishes for "fancy" dinner parties and for every day. They're very versatile. We bought a set on the French version of craigslist when the previous set dwindled down to not enough plates for 8. Great bargain. But because everything is white, we could use the serving pieces from the old set with the new plates.
I guess I'm just now catching on to the value of white dishes. Better late than never!
I love your dishes! I have an old white set of dishes that belonged to my Grandma. They were her good set of dishes. I used to keep them on a shelf but decided about 10 years ago to use them for my everyday dishes. I think of her everyday when I use them. And today happens to be my Grandma's birthday. She would of been 125. I sure miss her!
