A Little Bit Of Fall

I found this painting on sale at Kirklands. It looks so much like my little red truck I've had for years.

If you look at the photo below, you can see I didn't get the area above the window painted. I didn't get the area below it painted either, but the chair kind of blocks it.

I did bring three blue pumpkins out of my small stash of fall decor. That's enough for me.

I'm taking on a rather minimalist approach to holiday decorating.

That's just where I am in life. That's where many older women are choosing to be. If you live alone like I do, you get the only vote.

I'm slowly bringing things back into the living room. A bit here and a bit there. Taking my time.

I'm finally learning how to slow my life-long need to constantly do, do, do.

I'd rather enjoy the fall that is appearing right outside my door. The fall that Mother Nature hands us year after year without us having to go to any trouble at all.

  1. Eek! I love that truck painting! Old trucks remind me of the country and farms, which, after the ocean and seaside villages, is where I love to be.
I bought my two cats little ghosts and Halloween mice catnip toys and put a little crocheted pumpkin hat on my plaster pig. That's my Halloween/fall decorating so far! Oh, I did switch my dishes out, which took like 30 seconds!
You know, the wall above the window doesn't really look bad. Don't fret over it. Your ankle needs the rest.

    1. I'm not going to. If the maintenance guy doesn't get that fence finished, I'm going to do it myself. Sick of waiting around on him.

  6. I've taken a minimalist approach to decorating too... well, at least not the gazillion things I used to drag up from the basement. I've let the kids sort through and take some decos for their spaces too.

  14. I am certainly not decorating at all for any holiday this season. Not because I do not enjoy all of it. But, I just find myself being at comfort and fluffing the stuff I already have. I will not be home for Christmas this year. I am going on a long cruise with my Mom. There has been a lot of loss in my immediately family, so we are going to jump on ship.

    1. Oh Laura, I'm so sorry about the loss. A cruise sounds fun for all!

  15. I hear you on simplifying everything. I've pulled out my ceramic pumpkin that has fall foliage in it on my breakfast table and I did hang my fall wreath outside my front door last month and that's it for me! I love the little red truck painting and always love to see Abi and Charlie. I hope Abi is doing okay with her trachea issue, my Molly will still "honk" like a goose for about 15 seconds when we take walks. Such funny babies, but I love my little girl as much as you do your two. Have a great Tuesday! Carol

  16. I love this post, Brenda! Your painting is so cute with the truck...I put out my old red truck today, too! I decorated this year because I have so much fun doing it, but I'm with you...I don't want to work all the time anymore. I just want to do what makes me happy. We can't always do that, but I am doing it more and more. We only have a limited hours in a day and I don't want to waste them.

  19. Brenda, I love this post, and I love your truck painting. This fall weather must be what heaven is like, and we don't have to do a thing to be blessed with it. You hit the nail right on the head!!

  20. Your blue pumpkins are perfect. I've put a few things out here and there but limited. I don't have it in me to do much. Found two great old pics of when my daughter was about three I had her dressed up as a bride and me as a witch w full make up. On the other side of the frame is her sitting on her dad's lap in a pumpkkn patch wearing that costume. I've always loved your little truck and the picture is great. I'm going to be painting a truck soon that tgat rustic style.

  21. LOVE the red truck painting! I too am doing a more minimal decorating. I do enjoy changing out the summer colors for warmer fall colors in my cubbies. Christmas is the only holiday I still go all out for and each year I do a bit less. I know one day I'll stop but the Grands are still young and enjoy my tree and decor so it's still worth doing!

  22. I love the red truck painting too! Yes when there is two or more of you in the house there is a little compromising (or a lot!) when it comes to decorating. My husband did not want white walls, he wanted a light yellow color, in the end he came around and now it is done he is glad I persisted. I do get a little irritated when I don't get my way on interior décor but I must say that sometimes he is right! I won't be decorating for Halloween or for Christmas but I do love Fruit Christmas cake so I have one baking in the oven right now. Haven't made one for years so hope it turns out alright. It has plenty of orange liquor in it and I will be topping that up once a week until Christmas.

  23. That truck painting is fabulous! A perfect companion for the little red toy truck!

I like seeing more of your floor plan in this post, Brenda. How many square feet is your apartment? I live in a house that is just under 1000sq.ft. and when I think of living in a smaller place I start to imagine feeling claustrophobic. Maybe if I didn't have so much "stuff" to house I wouldn't!

I have put up a few pieces of decor for Fall and Halloween, piece by piece, but am trying to be happy with not going all out. The thing that I don't like about using a lot of decor is that afterward you have to put it all away! That's reason enough in itself not to decorate a lot!

Gotta go; I have some pumpkins to paint!

    1. I get tired just thinking of putting stuff away. My apartment is not at all tiny. It is 725 square feet. So your place isn't much bigger really.

  25. Love the truck painting and the way the reds and blacks in it kind of pop. It does look like your little red truck - what are the chances you would find that painting! The character antique toys like that add to a room is really special and now with the painting it all looks even better.

The whole place looks great! I would not worry about the wall. That area above the window just looks like a shadow, not bad at all.

    Take care Brenda!

  31. I really like the truck painting! I love browsing around in Kirklands when we go to Branson. Your newly painted walls look sharp and makes me want to get started on mine. Then I think how long (I'm dreadfully slow these days) it would take me and I can't quite make myself open that can of paint. I'd rather get out and enjoy Mother Nature's fall decor. The house work will always be there, autumn won't. :)
