    1. Abi is only curious what I'm doing and whether it looks like I might be preparing to go somewhere. She even follows me to the bathroom so I'm never out of her sight.

  1. I like the name Hope for your tree.. as you said it was a king of new beginning for you, getting the old trees cut down and the fence fixed, etc…. hope for good things to come, etc. I like the name Hope or Joy. I may have put it down at the end of the patio where they cut the other trees down, but I can see why you want to be able to see it out your patio doors too. It will look so pretty in the Fall. Maybe another one for down at the other end? Enjoy the cooler weather. We have some here in Oregon and it is so nice.. I even enjoyed the rain we had! Marilyn

  2. I am spoilt where I live at the moment, surrounded by birds and trees I call it my place of healing… there's just something about nature.

    1. In my younger years, I did not realize how wonderful nature was. But now, at 60, I live every day to see it.

  3. I was going to suggest you name your tree Hope because, to me, she is a symbol of hope. A reminder that no matter what we face we can and must hold on to hope. Hope for resolution, peace and joy wherever we land. I think when we lose hope that is the beginning of our death–symbolically or in reality.

  5. I think just Jade for a name?

Since my son and his pup moved in I've stopped feeding squirrels.

Koopa goes TOO beserk seeing them outside on the porch…not that he'd hurt them but the barking and all…just too much.

Meanwhile the CAT has layed down the law INSIDE the house and this 70 lb. pit bull 2 year old knows that the 6-7 lb. 12-13 year old CAT is his boss. She is just fearless, and a bitch, lol. And she's won.

  6. I immediately thought of Jade as the name for your tree and I see others here think that is a good name as well. 🙂

  7. I think you patio looks lovely. What a lovely retreat to enjoy the beauty of nature and birdsong.

  8. My Winston is 3/4 yorkie and loves the squirrels too. Your patio is so lovely. Jade would be a terrific name for your tree. What are you going to put on the big stump? An old wash bucket would be nice.

  9. When I first saw your lovely new tree I thought it was a type of Ginkgo tree which you later confirmed in a comment response. I love it and especially the shape of the leaves. You see a lot of Ginkgo leaf patterns in art work these days. My first thought for a name was "Joy" because this tree has brought you such joy and I'm sure it will in the coming years. Many like the name "Jade" and I think that is a nice name as well. I know you will name this lovely addition something that feels right to you. Enjoy it and have a peaceful Sunday Brenda!

  10. Reading previous comments and I think Jade is a good name too, but Butterfly seems to stick out in my mind as a good name also. I love your little patio space, what a wonderful private place to sit any time of day to daydream, read or just sit with a cup of coffee or tea and admire the lovely flowers and wildlife. The simple things in life are definitely the best.

  11. I really like Kaylene's idea for a name, for your new "baby". Jade is such a beautiful green stone, and your butterfly tree is just as beautiful..

  12. I had to smile at the picture of the squirrel you caught with his tail one side on the fence and
he/she on the other! Love the johnny jump ups, it looks like spring already. We are still enjoying warm weather in southern Ontario and are making the most of the sun on the patio as well our cat Dexter. We seem to have a lot of Chipmunks which he is always looking out for. He hasn't caught one yet thank goodness. For the 8 years he has lived with us he hasn't killed anything I am pleased to say. He doesn't seem interested in birds at all. In the spring he was in the garden and a baby blue jay landed right next to him, he just looked at it quizzically until it flew off.

  13. I'll choose Laurel for your new tree's name. Always enjoy pictures of your patio – you share so many ideas. Wondering if you'd post a picture of your garden cart sometime. Sounds like something I might like.

  14. I just passed a post on Houzz and at first thought it was your patio. Which is to say, your patio is pretty enough that I wasn't surprised it would be on a professional decorating site.
At a dinner last night with neighbors, one of the main topics of conversation was the delight we all take in the birds that live in our trees.

  15. It all looks so pretty! I just love your bird bath and the little birdies. A name for your tree: Molly pops in my brain… no rhyme or reason, but cute!
