  1. I can't believe how many flowers you still have, Brenda! Everything's done in the garden here, except for a few herbs that are still hanging in there. I woke to an inch of snow this morning, and we open for ski season tomorrow – gardening season is done until spring, sadly.

  2. If it was cold Ms Dove was probably just insulating herself. Her version of a puffer coat. I love mourning doves, and the way they coo.

They always remind me of my Husbands Mom. She was under hospice care. My daughter stopped by my house for a little while. As she got out of her car and came into our house on the way to her Grandma's, there were many, I believe, families of doves in our yard, on the sidewalk and around the birdbath, and in the spruce tree. They had been calling to each other and gathering all morning. When my daughter came into the house she asked me "What is with all of the birds out there, they wouldn't move to let me walk past them". I looked out the door, and I never saw that many mourning doves in our yard before then or since. My daughter then went to her Grandma's house. My husband's Mom was slipping away, in and out of it, she died peacefully just a few hours after the mourning dove encounter. The doves were all gone the next day.

  3. Beautiful photo of a mourning dove! They are my favorite birds because their call reminds me of my grandmother. As a child I would stay with her and I always heard their lovely call. Now I can not hear it and not think of her.

We will go to my son's house for Thanksgiving but I will do quite a bit of cooking to add to the feast. I always make the stuffing, a few other side dishes and a pecan pie. I grew up in the south and it is not Thanksgiving or Christmas for me without pecan pie!

    Have a lovely week Brenda!

  4. That mourning dove looks so pretty in her ruffled petticoat and pink boots!

My husband and I will drive 150 miles to take my mom out for a Thanksgiving buffet at a state park lodge near her town. I've always wanted to do this but other family members would veto the idea because they complained there would be no leftovers for the next day. But since they are all going to be elsewhere this year, we get to make the plans! My mom is quite excited about it. Even if the food is so-so we will be in a rustic lodge with a big fireplace and a pretty view of a lake. I'll make some pumpkin bread or some other kind of treat to have at her house later in the evening.

  5. THE DOVE MAY HAVE BEEN PREENING (cleaning itself)SHORTLY BEFORE YOU SAW IT, OR WAS FLUFFED UP IN ORDER TO GET AIR TRAPPED AMONG FEATHERS FOR WARMTH.THEY ARE SUCH REGAL, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, I LOVE TO WATCH THEM WALK. THERE ARE SEVERAL THAT VISIT MY YARD, ONE IS ALMOST THE SIZE OF A PIGEON. THEY ARE GENTLE AND I LOVE TO HEAR THEM " TALK" AMONG THEMSELVES.
THE PHOTOS OF YOUR FLOWERS ARE LOVELY AND COLORFUL. I HAVE MY ALMA (named for woman who planted it over 30 yrs. Ago) ROSE STILL BLOOMING. SHE'S A BEAUTIFUL, VERY FRAGRANT PINK.
WONDERING HOW YOUR TREE, JADE IS DOING!
    SNUGGLES TO THE PUPSTERS

  6. I have two doves that visit my yard every day, they love the bird bath. They are so beautiful aren't they? I'm not sure why the feathers of your visitor are so fluffy, I haven't seen that before.

My daughter and I are going to my parents for Thanksgiving. We have a small family so it'll just be my parents, my daughter and I, and my aunt and uncle and their son.

  7. I love mourning doves…beautiful birds. We actually had a couple of turtle doves stop by this week, too…first time I've seen them here.
Ani looks adorable! Sophie loves to pose, too.
I am cooking this week, for much of the family…I make it as easy as possible!

  8. Love the photos. Abi is a beauty!

Violas are one of my favorite fall flowers. It had been too warm here to plant them and the nurseries were not yet stocking them but I do believe they should be available soon. I love the vivid colors and the velvet look to the petals. It is amazing that these petite flowers pack such a powerful punch. My great grandmother loved these flowers (and pansies and snapdragons) and the color they provided during the fall/winter months in Atlanta. I remember her showing me how to pack the soil around the flowers and thank each plant for its gift of beauty and color. Thank you for nudging my memory bank!

  9. What beautiful photos! I would think it was spring at your house by the look of those. It is very windy here today and it was rainy, but warm and extremely windy yesterday. Thanksgiving will be here as it is every year. The kids will visit and once dinner is made, we will carry all next door to his parents house in order to eat.
