And It Snowed

I woke up and quickly realized that sometime during the night, it had snowed. The snow was still falling.

Silently, the snowflakes flurried in the air and finally found the ground.

And It Snowed, and I lit candles in the jar

When I let the dogs out in the wee hours of Saturday morning, they walked around in the growing mounds of snow.

It always seems amazing to me that something so big, so massive, is basically noiseless.

Beautiful and noiseless. A quiet form of nature that falls to the ground and hangs precipitously from the tree branches.

I Can Recall No Christmas Eve When It Snowed:

In my 60 years on this earth, I can’t recall a single Christmas when it snowed. And now it is Christmas Eve. Close enough.

My apartment patio furniture is covered with snow.
Charlie on the patio

Jade, the Gingko Biloba Butterfly tree, has snow coating the top of her branches. And all the plant pots are obscured with white crystals.

As you can see, Charlie is walking around on the wet cement.

Snow is weighing down the overhanging branches from the tree next door.

“The snow is sparkling like a million little suns.” — Lama Willa Miller

This is what it looks like from just inside the patio door.

My pot of petunias on the outdoor coffee table is filled with snow. You can’t even tell what was in any of the other plant containers with the snow piled on top.

The angel over by the chair stands to the side, as if presiding over the event.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful…

That’s the song that comes to mind. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

A strange sight, snow hanging onto a downward facing daisy.

This is my last daisy of the season, and its thin petals are covered in snow. It’s odd how so much snow is clinging to the downward-facing flower instead of being poised on top.

A closer look at the top of the yellow daisy.

It looks as though another flower threw a snowball and caught the daisy right in the face with it. And for some reason, it doesn’t fall; it just hangs on like it’s glued there.

“The only other sound’s the sweep of easy wind and downy flake.” — Robert Frost, “Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening”

A Weeping Daisy:

When the snow begins to melt, it may look as though the daisy is weeping…

When it's snowing is a perfect time to light candles indoors.

It’s an excellent time to light candles. To sit and enjoy watching the flames dance in shadows across the wall. And maybe drink a mug of hot chocolate.

Maybe I’ll watch a movie or read. I prefer to read. And I’ll snuggle up with the pupsters underneath a quilt.

No Exit:

Once I read a book called “No Exit”. It was about a group of people trapped in a building just off the highway during a blizzard. No one could drive any longer in the treacherous weather conditions.

And one of them was hiding a terrible secret.

That book was so suspenseful, it was like sitting on the edge of my seat as I read it. Waiting for what would happen next.

“When snow falls, nature listens.” — Antoinette Van Kleeff

Christmas Eve And It Snowed:

It’s Christmas Eve, and a new year is fast approaching.

When the snow is falling and coating the earth and all the surfaces, it looks as though the world is pure. Before it melts a bit and becomes slushy and dirty.

It is a landscape of pristine, angelic white that covers all the ugly things we do not want to see.

And for a time, we don’t have to.

“We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand… and melting like a snowflake. Let us use it before it is too late.” — Marie Beynon Lyons Ray
