Just catching up...

I export my blog and put the file on my hard drive where Carbonite finds it and backs it up.

Carbonite will also back up external hard drives provided they are connected to you computer AND you have selected those files to also be backed up. Easy as pie!

I have mine on my computer, external HD, some are on flash drives and carbonite. I like redundancy! :)

I use wordpress.com and there is an export button, so I export my post, pictures, pages, etc. and then store the file in dropbox. If you don't have dropbox, you can sign up for free, and you get 2G storage. You can earn extra free storage by referring friends. So far, that is what I'm doing. I was going to make some of the same suggestions that others have made. One thing I have done with articles I have posted, particularly ones which required a lot of research or time, is to draft them in my word processing program and then copy and paste the content into the blogger template. This way, the content is still on your computer and can be printed or stored in other ways. I also have a Western Digital External Hard Drive which backs up documents and photos.

The suggestion re emailing them to yourself will certainly work if you use a Mac as I do. You have online storage as well as storage on your computer.

I used to blog in the Xanga community, which is sooooo much more user friendly than Blogger. They actually have their own archive system. You can request your posts ever how often you wish and then you download them to your PC. They create their own files. No charge.

I think the "blog2book" feature might be an option I'd consider.

I have been using Blog2Print and The Cutest Blog on the Block (same company) to create books of my blog since my very first post. I usually go to their site and create my books every six months or so.

Not only do they save my writings and photos in book form, but some day, these books will be a record of my life for my family to read.

You and your readers might want to consider their service, which links directly to your blogs...and if you don't want to save your writings as books, they also have disk downloads available - either manually or automatically, for a fee.

one way is to simply store each post on a word file and/or print each post out and save it to a folder/book - that way you can even read what youve written in a book without having to put the computer on. This is what I do - save all my best posts to a book where I paste them in and re read from time to time!That way youre not relying on technology at all! ( I must be a luddite at heart lol)

The thought of losing my work scares me and I haven't put nearly the work into mine yet that some of you seasoned bloggers have! I understand that you could save the body of your posts onto your hard drive or an external hard drive but I'm guessing there is no way to save your blog in it's entirety?

I haven't been backing up my blog either. I wasn't sure how to do it. Apparently you can do it through Blogger under "Setting" and "Export" as some have commented here. I'm going to try it and see if it works. This has been a very helpful post - luckily someone out in blogland usually knows the answers.

I backup my blog by going to dashboard-settings-basic. Under basic you will see import blog, export blog, delete blog. Click export blog and Bloger will create an xml file for you to save to your computer. Save the xml with a suitable file name and/or in a folder so you can easily find and distinguish it from a backup template xml file as they have an identical icon.
I'm not sure how "safe" this is but it's what I do. Hope it helps.
