A Craft Celebrating The Past

500ha

Yesterday I finished four hoops. I kind of do them on an assembly line. One day I cut out all the fabric, and next I choose what elements I want to use. And so it goes.

I’ve changed my strategy of gluing the vintage images to the back fabric. Now I use pretty decorative pins and pin them on. Then you could take them off and use your own photos of family and such.

I love delving into the big jar of buttons. There’s something so childlike and fun about buttons.

I started a button board on my Pinterest. (I am really loving Pinterest these days! So much inspiration in one place.)

I think of this craft, embroidery hoop art, as something from yesteryear. The embroidery hoops, the doilies I use to create pockets, the vintage ephemera, and of course the buttons and lace I use to hang these up.

What fun it is to create! And with my new setup where I have everything in one small area, it is easy to put all the elements together.

Mini Craft Room In A Suitcase

suit1

This week I’ve been concentrating on embroidery hoop art. All week my ankle has been more painful and problematic. I got tired of going into my office/craft room, and bringing supplies into the living room where it is warmer and I can watch CNN.

suit2

So after many trips back and forth yesterday to get two hoops done, I decided to do this. I had this empty vintage suitcase doing nothing. In my house, since it’s so small, things have to be utilized. So I came up with a mini craft room in a suitcase.

suit3

I decided which things I used the most to make my hoop art, and possibly some collages. That was buttons, various types of glue, ribbon, stamp pads,  etc. I picked the colors I felt I used the most.

suit9

I have utilized my textile drawer box to put vintage images and quotes and scrap paper in. Which is right across from the table I’m using, which is right next to the trunk with the suitcase.

suit5

My various sized doilies are in this box I decoupaged years ago.

suit6

This is one of two hoop art projects I did yesterday. I am hand sewing what needs to be sewn, because I can’t use the sewing machine with my ankle.

suit7

Here is the other. I’d appreciate it if you’d tell me what you like or don’t like about these hoop art projects. As I may start selling them in my Etsy store.

suit10

So you see the space I work and the supplies I need to use are right next to my table. Much less walking around!

A good idea for being able to work in a certain room and not having your work materials spread all over the house. And just close the suitcase when you’re done.

Baby It’s Cold Outside

500th7

I was not at all excited to have to leave the house today. It’s cold out there! But I got out and went to physical therapy.

500th2

Then decided, though my ankle was really hurting, that I’d attempt to find some warm sweats and flannel sleepwear at Target. Shoot, they’ve already gotten rid of much of the winter clothing. Just some duds in clearance.

Don’t you miss the days when we actually could buy for the current season instead of buying swimsuits when we’re bone cold?

500th3

I got this little red embroidery hoop done yesterday. I’m trying to get more creative endeavors done this year. Which means something else will suffer while I spend time doing that. Right now it’s my other blog.

500th4

How can you not like simple little egg cups? I won these on eBay for a song.

Hey, little white snow birds. Tell them how cold it is around here.

Embroidery Hoop Art

h2

Lately I’ve become intriqued with embroidery hoop art. Judy has made some beautiful ones. So I thought I’d try my hand at it.

h1

I tried sewing with my Singer Featherweight the day before, and aggravated some tendon above my ankle. So I hand sewed this. The only hand sewing I did was the script material pocket to the Osnaberg background, the brown trim to the pocket, and the felt flower and button.

I will hang it on the wall some place, most likely. I can do that with the bow at the top I worked into the screw that tightens the hoop.

h3

I hot glued the vintage images, the doily, and the buttons on. Does everyone burn the tips of their fingers with a hot glue gun? There must be a strategy to avoid this.

This was a fun project. I may make some to sell. I like collage art on any medium. In the coming year, I’ve decided I want to dabble more in creating things. Judy is rubbing off on me.

Have you tried embroidery hoop art yet?
