Elaine’s Cozy Porch

e1

Welcome to my home and my front porch. Nothing fancy, just a typical California ranch entry way. I love to decorate it for all the seasons.

When we moved in and painted the house, I knew I wanted a red front door. The door was actually white with a real dated blue and white glass. We found a piece of salvage leaded glass and had it put in.

The little swing on our porch was hung by my husband’s grandfather in 1958. We cherish it and repair it as needed but it is the perfect size for this spot. I love to watch my kids outside or enjoy a cool drink in the evenings just swingin’ away.

All the decor on the porch comes from things we have collected over the years. The wood boxes were unearthed from the garage. A hint of the egg laying chickens outback greets you when you arrive.

I love watering cans and flags. I try to work them in everywhere.

We actually have changes in store for the porch. My brother, a brick mason, is going to brick it over and enlarge it a bit. The old concrete is showing its age and I am excited to spruce it up.

When May comes around, the flags come back out for the summer. Memorial day to Labor day and the red white and blue is flying proudly at our home.

Thanks for coming by and taking a little tour of our front porch.

Blogger Spotlight Home Tour: Sunny Simple Life

Elaine, who blogs at Sunny Simple Life, is one of those girls that you just know instinctively you’ll be great pals with. Right at the get-go.

450elaine4

She has a handsome hubby that you can tell she’s still madly in love with, even after four daughters that go from ages 4 up into their twenties. That’s a great achievement in this day and age.

450elaine1

Elaine always has pretty gardens with bright colors, such as her beloved sunshine yellow.

450elaine3

And she’s even mama to some chickens.

450elaine5

I’ve always coveted this couch. Elaine shares my love of color and toile. I love this combination.

450elaine13

She’s very frugal and cooks a lot. She’s never wasteful with food.

She teaches us all how to stretch a dollar.

450elaine19

She’s one of those fantastic mothers everyone wish they’d had. She’s got four lucky girls, I’m here to say. And I say it often.

450elaine16

Her home is so cheerful. You can tell that love lives here. In every corner of every room.

450elaine10

She is even lucky enough to have a husband who likes to create decorative vignettes. And he’s one big strapping handsome man too.

Elaine looks at him with such love and devotion, I am now sure that true love does really exist.

And there’s that little yellow Keurig that once she got, I just had to have the red equivalent.

I believe that Elaine is one of those women who was simply born to be a wife and mother and homemaker. She is proud to be all those things.

And I’m proud to call her friend.

Go over and visit Elaine and her children and chickens at Sunny Simple Life.

Picnic Basket Vignettes

The other day I took two brown picnic baskets I’ve had for years, garage sale finds, and decided to paint them. I already had these two colors of spray paint.

I didn’t spray the whole insides, just the inside of the lid. Then I thought: What do I do with them? So you can see what I decided to do. I put folded up vintage table cloths in this red one.

And in this blue one, I put homemade pillows and teddy bears. Plus folded a table cloth and doily along the front. I rather like their bright cheery colors!

My dough bowl with various odds and ends are between them on the table.

You know me and color. I can never have too much. If you’re wondering about that white thing on the lower left side, that is my sound machine. Keeps me from going crazy with the college kids next door. I have it set to rain 24/7.  And another in my bedroom.

I’m linking up to Elaine’s Sunny Simple Sundays.
