Since 2009, I have been showcasing new bloggers. After all, everyone starts somewhere.
So I keep a running list of bloggers that are new or semi-new. And each Thursday I go down the list and choose three to feature on Friday. I choose these blogs on that particular day depending on some fairly concrete reasons. Have they posted recently? I don’t want to send my readers over to a blog that hasn’t been updated lately. That would be a disservice to both my readers and the new bloggers. Have they got their photography skills to a point where the images aren’t blurry, but rather appealing? Because people are very visual creatures. And photographs, let me tell you now, will make or break a blog. Especially in the home and garden genre.
I want to feature these bloggers on a day when they are putting their best foot forward, so that they can possibly attract new readers from the traffic I’m attempting to send their way.
And just like the Welcome Wagon Lady of another time, I suppose I am the token internet Welcome Wagon Lady. Virtually, my readers go over to visit with their virtual cake or pie or cookies. And they spend some time with them, getting to know them. And in so doing, welcome them to our blogging community. By way of a simple comment.
So many bloggers have, early on, passed through my Welcome Wagon Friday featured posts.
After I publish this post, I email the featured bloggers and let them know that the Welcome Wagon is coming their way. That we wholeheartedly are glad to have them in our midst. They are unaware of their introductory feature until the post is published.
One important point to remember is to always have a way to contact you by email on your blog. I can’t get in touch with you if I don’t have an email address.
I love doing this. It can be a lonely and scary place for a new blogger. Putting themselves out there into the virtual world. Not knowing if anyone is reading their words, or if anyone cares. I do this because I want them to know someone cares. And they are not alone anymore.
If you have a newish blog, or know of someone else who has one, feel free to email me at brendakula@gmail.com, and I will put them on my list.
